The Kunstraum Stein in the former Minorite monastery of Stein uses contemporary interpretation to analyse the history and culture of Stein, the surroundings and the inhabitants and creates a new perspective on the historical and social aspects of the region. Five exhibition rooms focus on artistic strategies in relation to socially relevant themes and social groups in the towns of Krems and Stein. Alongside the theme, what is important for the year’s project is that the art works have been developed within the area and affect the consciousness of people living here. The interventions and exhibition projects portray architectural investigations and the safeguarding of remains, attempts at artistic approaches that open up new perspectives and not least trigger memory processes.
